Attempt to Construct a Small-scale Picture and Archiving Communication
System(PACS)using the Central Test Node(CTN)

Summary
We constructed a small-scale picture and archiving communication system (PACS)consisting of image acquisition, transmission, storage, management, and display using the central test node (CTN)on a PC-UNIX as a digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM)server. The usefulness of this system was improved by connecting the relational database management system (RDBMS)to a World Wide Web (WWW)server using personal home page construction kit/form interpreter (PHP/FI)script language so that clients could communicate via the WWW server as to inquiries sent to the RDBMS connected with the CTN, and by producing a program that allows retrieval by the WWW browser. For image display, field information displayed in the results of an inquiry is consulted, and images are downloaded from the public directory using a common file system with a file server for the personal computer (PC)and network file system (NFS)server, and displayed using OSIRIS. This system may prove useful in light of its small scale and range of use.
